Round 2 of the SWSA Mens Div 1 league saw Geographe Bay FC host Bunbury Dynamos SC with both sides looking for a win. A fast-starting GBFC put the pressure on early, but unfortunately had a goal disallowed.
Dynamos defence were resolute, but seemed unable to get passed halfway with anything meaningful, and after absorbing attacks, the deadlock was broken by Damien Neoh, after a cross from the right wing found its way directly into the net.
Starting the second half 1-0 up, GBFC kept up the pressure, but we’re constantly frustrated by the Dynamos defence and goalkeeper. But they also started to make inroads towards goal, but the GBFC defenders made sure goalkeeper Cam Woodcoe-Bryant was well protected giving him a quiet day in goals.
This continued until the 80th minute when a long-range strike from midfielder Isaac Smith added a bit of breathing room, and after a frantic 10 minutes with multiple missed chances, the game ended 2-0, with Geo getting 3 points but have lost yet another player to injury with hard pressing Will Shinji going down with a bad leg injury in the second half. The win boosted confidence going into the Pioneer Cup game next week.
GBFC are still looking out for new players, so it’s not too late to come down and join the winning side. Contact geographebayfootball@gmail.com for more club details.
