Seasiders sink top-of-the-table Hay Park

Geographe Bay Football Club have set themselves up for an exciting finish to their division one campaign after taking down league leaders Hay Park on Sunday.

The side quickly found themselves a goal down after Hay Park forward Brendan Fantasia bent a free kick around the defensive wall to sneak it past the near post of goalkeeper Cam Woodcoe-Bryant.

The response was quick and emphatic from the home side though, with winger Jamie King sending a searing cross into the box towards the seemingly wrong-footed Euan McFadyen who acrobatically thumped the ball in the bottom corner with a spectacular bicycle kick.

Geographe then took the lead through the hard-working Jack Hall after some great build-up play from Will Ogusco.

Hay Park responded with their own eye-catching goal when Luke Quartermaine’s long range effort found the top corner and made sure the two sides went into the break on equal standing.

But the half time talk and tactical tweaks from player-coach Damien Schoen was the difference with team captain McFadyen quickly sealing his match winning hat-trick with two calmly taken finishes in the first ten minutes of the half.

The Seasiders’ defence anchored by Joe Chapple remained solid to see the game out with the 4-2 scoreline.

Coach Schoen said the win was a great response to losing to the same side a fortnight ago.

“Slick and satisfying, the lads really showed their class today to beat the top team,” he said.

The win gives the Seasiders hope they can finish much higher on the table than their current fifth position, as they head into the final game weeks only two points off the top four with two games in hand over their rivals.
