Huge Second Half for Geo sees off Harvey Hawks in Rd 7

After a series of forfeits due to several different issues, Geographe returned eager to prove a point in Round 7 hosting Harvey Hawks Football Club. The game featured the debut and return of multiple players, which was evident in the as everyone became more familiar with each other and settled into a rhythm as the first half wore on. A goal from Euan McFayden from just outside of the box was cancelled out later in the half from a Harvey goal against the run of play, and the first half ended 1-1.

The second half started inauspiciously as some communication issues in defence led to a few chances for Harvey, which were unlucky to only score 1 of the multiple chances to lead 1-2. Digging deep to recover, Jack Sweatman went to work controlling the midfield and after a few attacking attempts, Harvey gave away a free kick. Jack’s set piece was received with Juliano Ferminio, who’s glancing header went underneath the keeper into the bottom corner to draw the scores level at 2-2.

Sensing the moment shifting, Geo began to pile on the pressure. This led to another free kick in the same area, this time taken by Josh Maisey which was once again greeted by Juliano. This time though being deflected by the keeper and finally put away by Jack Sweatman, who not soon after had another goal with strike from just outside the box. At this stage leading 4-2, Geo’s dominance was on full display after having to replace 3 defenders due to cramping/injury, and still being in full control of the backline, with Jack moving to centre back and forwards Andrew Turcato and Joel Cook protecting the wings.

After another enterprising run down the left, a shot by Euan was parried away in the path of a debuting Blake Manning on the edge of the box, scoring in his first game since returning as a former Seasiders Junior player. Blake would go on to score his second after a counterattack from a Harvey corner, chipping the keeper to make it 6-2. The game ended with a flurry of near chances for some late excitement but no further changes to the scoreboard, Geo winning 6-2 and eagerly anticipating the next game, with Geo hosting Manjimup Rovers on 11th June at Barnard Park.
